When We Grow Up...

We want to be just like Young House Love. Sherry and John, the YHL couple are pretty much the cutest things ever! Their blog is great and their house is incredible! Derrick and I always talk about how we can't wait to get our own place, so we can really make it our own, just like Sherry and John. Have you checked their blog out? If not, you totally should. It's really a great way to find DIY tips and tricks for your own house. They also have a link so that you can read about and pick up tips from their beautiful DIY wedding.

Check out these pictures from their house. I am so jealous!! Also go to their blog to see the before pics.

Very Awkward = Very Funny

I'm writing this post because Jesse and I are often involved in escapades that are usually awkward at the time, but result in hilarious stories, so here's one for your enjoyment...
So me and Jesse were enjoying our meal at one of my favorite dining establishments: Chili's, while I was calmly enjoying my cheese steak sandwich, which was quite messy but very tasty, one of the hostesses came running down the isle in which we were sitting, disrupting all of the local, unexpected consumers who were casually enjoying their meals. When she came around she immediately caught my attention for one because she was being abnormally loud, but more significantly she was shouting my name. "Is there a Derrick Alston here," screamed the young hostess. Dismayed I responded to her call and notified her that I was indeed Derrick Alston.
Once I had informed her that I was who she was looking for, she proceeded to clue me in as to what was going on."Derrick, I just received a call that your fiancee is in labor at the local Baptist Hospital, and you should get over there immediately," she breathlessly exclaimed. I could only imagine what was going through her head, considering I was sitting in Chili's with my girlfriend eating dinner, and she was informing about my pregnant fiancee.

At this point I'm a little nervous, and I'm thinking that she had just informed the wrong Derrick Alston with urgent news! I informed her that I didn't have a fiancee and she certainly wasn't pregnant. However, being the quick witted person that I am (wow that was conceited, but kinda funny...maybe not) I realized that the reason this woman had just told me that my (non-existent) fiancee was about to have a baby, was because only 5 Minutes earlier she received a phone call from my step-father and mother, who decided that they wanted to play a practical joke on their sweet young son (I know what your thinking, but I gotta give myself something here lol) who was enjoying a meal with his beautiful girlfriend (actually the only true compliment I've stated this whole post!)

I told her that all was okay, and someone had just played a joke on me(which was very funny). She finished by saying, " Well that's F'd Up!" I shrugged my head in agreement.Haha, I'm eating with my girlfriend and my parents call and say that my fiancee is in labor, funny! But whats funnier is the fact that the reason that they knew I was in chilies was because I had just sent them a text message telling them I had just ran into my ex-girlfriend who was currently working at Chili's, which was extremely awkward. For some reason when I'm with Jesse I am like a magnet for ex-girlfriends, which is always a situation I like to avoid, because it's freaking awkward!!! But anyways we got through that experience and it was a lot of fun! I hope you enjoyed a little comical relief at my expense and I would love for you to send me a comment of a hilarious or awkward situation you've experienced lately!

Good Times,
Derrick

Healthy Treat That's Really Neat

Okay, so you are on a diet (much like me) and you have already eaten dinner, but you are still are hungry. You are craving something sweet... and frozen! Well I have the perfect little recipe for you. I tried it for the first time last night and it was very good! I immediately wanted to blog about it. So, are you wondering what sweet treat I am talking about? It's like a frozen yogurt/custard/pudding that is made with bananas, cocoa, and a little bit of sweetener. It's also SUPER easy to make.

What you need:
  • 4 bananas. It makes 5 little servings.
  • 8 teaspoons of cocoa .
  • 2 or more tablespoons of a sweetener of your choice. I used Splenda!
What you do:
  • Peel the bananas and pull them apart in to chunks, putting them in a blender as you go.
  • Add the cocoa.
  • Add the sweetener.
  • Blend away! Try to blend the mixture into a pudding like consistency.
  • Pour into little bowls and freeze for over an hour at the least. Don't freeze too long, unless you want a chocolate banana pop.
  • When you pull them out of the freezer, top them with whipped topping, strawberries, chocolate shavings... or anything that you want to add. Use your creativity!
  • Enjoy!
P.S. If you don't like bananas, then this recipe may not be for you. Sorry!

Hello All!

Hey everyone this is Derrick and i figured that now would be a good time to write my first blog entry. As Jesse has already pointed out I have been closely following all of the football games of the weekend (guys can relate...it's playoff weekend!). Anyways we are both very excited to get this blog started and over the next couple of weeks you may see some exterior changes to the blogs colors or overall look, but that's only because we are both perfectionists and have a hard time deciding on details, but just keep in mind it will be the same couple giving you the scoop on our everyday adventures. Unfortunately, we're going to be heading back to school next week and then the real "fun" starts. So I guess I'll be posting some stuff in the coming weeks...I hope you have as much fun reading our blog as we will writing it.

What It's All About

Hi there blog readers! I am so anxious to get this blog really started. If Derrick would just stop playing games and watching football, he might actually be able to have a part in creating this blog! He is busy every time I mention it to him. However, he surprised me last week by showing me a little logo/graphic type do-dad for our blog that he had been working on. It was really cute actually. Oh, did I mention that Derrick is studying to be a graphic designer. I know my opinion of how great he is will always be bias, but I really do think that he has a really great eye for design. Oops! Sorry. I often find myself rambling on and on about Derrick, but right now I am supposed to be talking about us (the two of us) and this blog.

This blog... is ... is pretty much what our header says. "Our daily ramblings about life, love, and college." See, we aren't your typical college students. We don't really do the typical college student thing. Instead of going out on a Friday night to clubs and parties, we opt to hang out with friends, head to my apartment for a home cooked meal, and watch a movie. However, don't start thinking that we are boring just because we aren't party people. We love to have a good time! We go on many adventures, which result in fantastic stories. Whether it's getting locked in a parking garage or running into an ex, we always have a good story to tell.

Hello Bright Shiny New Blog World

We are so excited to be launching our new blog! This is something that we have been brainstorming about for a while now, so it’s great to see it start to come to life! As you can see we are still working on a lot of things, so there isn’t very much to look at. Sorry! We hope to have everything up and running very soon, so please check back every once and a while. We promise it will be worth it!

Love, The Young Couple (Jesse and Derrick)
